Student Clinical Lab Assistant

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a temporary Student Clinical Laboratory Assistant to support the Human Brain Research Laboratory (HBRL) through Summer 2024 by conducting preliminary data management tasks for a research project studying misophonia. More specifically, the project requires collection of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data from approximately 50 participants. 

 

The ideal candidate will have a background or interest in brain imaging, particularly the MRI, and skills in recruiting participants and management of data. The candidates who do not have background in imaging but are enthusiastic to learn about it would also be considered. 

 

Job Duties include:

  • Data management, including both data collection and data entry.
  • Maintain research database (i.e., detailed and accurate record of all data collected).
  • Complete other tasks as needed.

Schedule: Exact schedule is flexible and will incorporate student availability. Maximum 20 hours per week during the academic semesters, 40 hours per week during breaks. 

The expectation for this position is to be needed from May 2024-October 2024. Applicants looking to work through Summer 2024 are highly preferred.

 

This position is located within the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Health screening compliances and patient medical health record trainings will be required at the time of hire. Hands on training provided.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently registered as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Iowa
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, patients, and the public. 
  • Proficient in operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, multi-line telephone)
  • Knowledge of office software programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, as well as electronic meeting platforms such as Skype for Business and Zoom.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work 4-hour blocks highly preferred.
  • Ability to work over breaks highly preferred.
