IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering (http://www.iihr.uiowa.edu/) has an opening for a Student Office Assistant for summer 2024 to provide general support in the administrative office. Candidates must be a student and have good written and verbal communication skills. A valid driver’s license is required and continued compliance with the standards of the University Driving Policy. (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19). 

Work schedule:

Between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (15 to 20 hours/week), in-person. There may be an opportunity to work 40 hours over breaks. Position duration will depend on satisfactory performance and work needs. 

Pay: $13- $15 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Under direct supervision, the Student Office Assistant will serve as the first point of contact for IIHR calls and visitors. This person will also perform general clerical tasks which involve the use of a computer, conventional office equipment, a variety of software programs, and the use of a university vehicle. 

General duties:

·        Greet and direct visitors 

·        Run errands 

·        Answer phone lines

·        Maintain facilities

·        Prepare desk/office space for new faculty, staff, and students

·        Sort and distribute mail

·        Receive packages 

·       Organize and maintain office supplies

·        Provide support for meetings and events (room set-up, order and pick up food, etc.)

·        Other reception and general office duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Must be a student. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

A valid driver’s license is required and continued compliance with the standards of the University Driving Policy. (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19). 

Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Must be highly organized, able to follow instructions, and complete projects independently.
