Clinical Student Assistant - Women's Wellness and Counseling Service - UIHC

The Department of Psychiatry Women’s Wellness & Counseling Service is seeking an Undergraduate Student to assist the Clinic Director and the Graduate Research Assistant by engaging in patient referral triage, appointment scheduling, and patient check-in/check-out services.
 
TIME COMMITMENT: 10-15 hours per week; fiscal year position
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Successful candidates will possess the following skills/qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills: in person, on phone, in writing; the Undergraduate Clinical Student will interact with patients, clinic staff, and health care providers within the hospital and across the city/region/state. They will discuss various treatment options with patients and orient them to clinic procedures/operations. Previous counseling or direct patient interaction is recommended but not required.
  • Ability to type, to use Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and to manage the clinic phone line (incoming calls and voicemail messages).
  • Basic understanding of mental illness; compassion and empathy for persons in emotional distress.
  • Ability to make complex treatment/care recommendations (triage decisions) considering patient needs as well as clinic capabilities.
  • Willingness to complete necessary job training requirements, such as those pertaining to the use of Electronic Medical Records, patient care, scheduling of patient appointments, etc.
  • Note that this clinic runs from 8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday, but some evening and weekend hours may be required through virtual work. We are seeking someone with availability to work 4 hour blocks of time.
  • Basic understanding of and respect for women’s reproductive care and mental health.
  • Ability to identify tasks, develop workable solutions, and implement change that integrates feedback from multiple sources.
  • Ability to work independently yet seek assistance and input from others when needed to perform optimally.
