Howard County Generation Teach Leadership Residency

The Generation Teach Leadership Residency is a multi-month, national leadership development experience for anti-racist educators. We have an explicit commitment to ending racial injustice and inequity in education. In every Residency session, we develop skills and practice scenarios to co-create loving cultures where students, teachers, and leaders learn, grow, and develop.

During the Residency, you will grow your skills in:

Justice & equity
Instructional leadership
People & culture
Family & community engagement
Operations & management

The schedule features:
Weekly, 3-hour virtual sessions
Two half-day in-person preparation sessions
Six-week, in-person leadership practicum

You will receive up to $9,151 to support your participation, including a living allowance ($7,392), an AmeriCorps Education Award ($1,459), and up to $300 in expense reimbursements upon successful completion of the residency. By completing the residency, you are eligible to earn three graduate credits from the University of Colorado - Denver for a reduced cost.

When and where will the GT Leadership Residency take place?
The Generation Teach Leadership Residency will be virtual through May. The summer leadership practicum will be in-person. 
We will prepare you to lead during the 6-week summer practicum. You will lead in-person as an Academic Team Leader or Student Support Team Leader at one of our GT STEAM Academy sites in Howard County. 

What will I learn?
Within a loving community context, you will strengthen your ability to:

  • Lead restorative circles and hold space for challenging conversations
  • Build relationships with families
  • Plan and facilitate effective meetings
  • Set intentions, reflect on progress, and shift practices to meet goals
  • Develop executive skills in others & narrate the journey for others
  • Set the tone for students
  • Implement curricula
  • Lead and execute overall school operations
  • Lead assessment and data analysis

When is the application deadline?

What is the ideal applicant profile?
Excellent candidates:

  • Have at least 3 years of professional experience in teaching and/or coaching
  • Believe that you have the potential to move from good to great with the right system and support
  • Are looking to develop leadership skills
  • Are committed to the duration of the residency

What will I do during my Leadership Practicum?
You will collaborate with other leaders to co-create a just and equitable learning community by:
leading a cohort of 8-10 summer teaching fellows
providing daily coaching in engineering, law, math, or reading
developing a community of elementary- or middle-school students and families through regular communication and restorative practices
building a strong program culture in alignment with our core values

What are my hours during the Leadership Practicum?
The Leadership Practicum extends Monday - Friday for six weeks in the summer. The hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. with two evening events scheduled in advance.

Are there eligibility guidelines?
The Generation Teach Leadership Residency is an AmeriCorps program. US citizens, US nationals, and lawful permanent residents are eligible to apply. Returning Team Leaders who are Undocumented or Dreamers are eligible to return; please contact your director for more information.
