The Neurobiology of Pain Laboratory in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Iowa seeking a Research Assistant. You will be working with a team of investigators on a large pragmatic clinical trial implementing Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) into Physical Therapy Practice. Clinics are located in Iowa (Eldridge, DeWitt, Waterloo, Muscatine), Minnesota (Ortonville, Baxter, Morris, Marshall), Wisconsin (Ripon, Iola), South Dakota (Watertown), and North Dakota (Fargo).
This National Institute of Health funded pragmatic trial is the first of its kind working with local community physical therapy clinics to test the efficacy of TENS. You will engage with physical therapy clinics and referring providers across the Midwest to maintain clinician engagement and enhance recruitment. In collaboration with the team, you will develop novel approaches to bolster recruitment through outreach with local communities. You will be required travel to visit physical therapy clinics and referring providers, and to communicate with enrolled participants. You will receive training in community engagement for research. Must have a flexible schedule and are willing to travel but can work remotely.
Duties to include:
- Engage with local communities and physical therapists to enhance recruitment.
- Communicate regularly with team members through individual and team meetings.
- Communicate with enrolled participants to answer study questions and encourage completion of the study.
- Maintain compliance with human subjects’ regulations, study protocol, university policies and state and federal regulations.
- May perform other administrative support tasks in support of the research (e.g., organize and facilitate meetings/events, respond to inquiries; maintain website content, engage in social media).
Supervision Received:
- Supervision is received from Kathleen Sluka, Neurobiology of Pain Laboratory Director.
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Must be willing and able to travel regularly to visit clinic sites and their communities.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other researchers.
- Ability to plan, organize, and monitor projects to ensure deadlines are met.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with recruitment in a clinical trial
- Experience with marketing or health promotion
- Experience with spreadsheets and databases
