Research/Legal Assistantship for Recent Graduate

The position is an internship (30 hours/week) geared towards a recent graduate of undergraduate school who is looking to take a year or two off before going to law school or graduate school. It is structured as a tutorial, meaning the Research/Legal Assistant will be introduced to the U.S. immigration system - specifically the humanitarian track (asylum, temporary protected status (TPS), deferred enforced departure (DED), relief through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), humanitarian parole, "U", "T", and "S" visas) and other areas of immigration law - by way of country conditions research, preparation of brief write-ups about those specific areas of law, work on associated application forms and petitions, and occasional virtual seminar attendance (national and local) devoted to those topics. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in immigration, human rights, or international issues by way of past employment, volunteer work, and/or coursework. Foreign language skills a plus. Planned start date is 9/4/2024. Rate of pay will be $20.00/hr and subject to review for future increases. One must have access to a computer and secure internet for remote work.
