Student Clerk in Psychiatry Clinic

Details: Employee needs to be flexible to work shifts between 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. Monday – Friday based on clinic need.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·    Responsible for scheduling psychiatry ambulatory care patient appointments following the guidelines of the clinic providers and the Ambulatory Care Services Standards of Excellence.

·    Provides a positive and professional first impression to patients / callers and match their request to available staff and/or services.

·    Greet patients and families and complete the check in and out process for their appointments.

·    Facilitate patient flow through clinic and communication with clinic staff.

·    Support the psychiatry providers to efficiently provide care to patients. 

·    Collect electronic credit card co-pays for patient visits.

·    Provide reminders / visit verification by phone prior to appointment.

·    Contact patient and care providers by telephone to complete scheduling of appointments.

·    Coordinate scheduling of consults across various UIHC specialty services.

·    Problem-solve to satisfy patient needs / special requests.

·    All other duties or projects as assigned by supervisor.

GENERAL CLINIC DUTIES:

·    Prepare photocopies or faxing for providers.

·    Keep all general clinic areas clean, organized, and presentable.

·    Work group schedules by adding recurring appointments to the scheduling system.

SPECIFIC TO FLOAT POSITION:

·    Able to open and close all outpatient psychiatry clinics.

·    Cover open shifts or parts of shifts in all outpatient psychiatry clinics when required due to vacations, illness, or other absences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

·    Knowledge of office routines and functions to refer visitors and telephone calls and to route correspondence by name and functional area.

·    Knowledge of institutional and unit policies, processes, and forms.

·    Knowledge of proper format, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

·    Skill in utilizing computer software packages and online systems.

·    Skill in operating office equipment.

·    Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and the public. 

·    Ability to follow oral and written instructions and apply institutional and other policies accurately.

·    Ability to gather, evaluate, and display data in appropriate format and keep accurate records.

·    Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.

·    Availability to attend EPIC (patient scheduling) training at North Liberty facility

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working in healthcare with psychiatric / mental health patients

Experience with Microsoft Office products.

Experience utilizing electronic medical records

Knowledge of the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics complex.
