Project Summary

The Social Media Intern exists to assist in the creation and execution of engaging social media strategies and web and media content to be distributed across all social media channels. They will work with the Social Media Program Manager to coordinate social media content for the MNHS main channel as well as over 14 unique sites and museums in the MNHS historic site network. This position will offer hands-on opportunities to film and direct content on-site, and collaborate with various staff to create powerful engagement with Minnesota history.  

Ideal Degrees

Marketing, Business, English, Media Studies, Art, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Humanities, Journalism, or other related degrees.

Responsibilities

Management & Content Planning

  • Assist with preparing content calendar and scheduling posts on Hubspot
  • Assist in editing and revising the Social Media Style Guide to be distributed to site managers and stakeholders

Asset Creation & Editing  

  • Participate in media shoots on or off-site to gather social media content
  • Assist with editing short-form videos and social media copy for distribution across social media channels
  • Source image assets by searching through the MNHS Collections

Community Engagement 

  • Assist in monitoring community engagement across social accounts through Sprout Social
  • Collect important KPIs and analytics to ensure they align with content goals

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
  • Detail-oriented
  • Creative thinker with an eye for high-quality content
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest in and/or experience with content creation, video editing, and copywriting
  • Ability to use Google Hangouts for meetings
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn)


 

Desired:

  • Experience with editing software (Final Cut Pro, Adobe Suite, Capcut) and design (Canva, Adobe)
  • Familiarity or interest in Minnesota history or related topics
  • Experience or interest in working in a museum setting


 

Knowledge Intern is Expected to Gain

What should the intern expect to get out of the internship? 

  • Hands-on experience managing social media for a large historical and cultural institution
  • Development of digital storytelling and community engagement skills through content planning and monitoring engagement
  • Improved personal and professional communication skills
  • Increased knowledge of standard industry social media practices and strategies
  • Working with historic site managers and marketing team on projects to develop collaboration skills
