The reporting location for this position is Diablo Range District Office, 15751 Tesla Road, Livermore, CA. This position will work under general direction of the Superintendent II.   

The Diablo Range District is looking for a District Interpretive and Education Manager. The general functions of the State Park Interpreter III are the oversight and supervision of the interpretation and education program for the Diablo Range District, which includes scheduling, training and development, research and program development for State Vehicular Recreation Areas, State Historic Parks, State Recreation Areas, and State Parks. The district boundaries are Benicia to the north, Bethany Reservoir to the east, Hollister Hills to the south and Henry Coe to the west.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position is designated as telework eligible office centered.

Duties

  • Provides support for all District interpretive services including planning, developing, directing and supervising activities of staff and volunteers engaged in interpretation and education.
  • Advises staff on interpretive policy, fosters interpretive activities, and enhances public, community, and allied agency understanding of the significance and value of the park units of the Diablo Range District.
  • In conjunction with Headquarters staff plans, develops, and implements statewide interpretive and educational programs.
  • Manages the planning, organizing, training, research, directing, evaluation and projections of District interpretive programs and services to enhance the overall visitor experience.
  • Sets performance objectives for interpretive programming based on the strategic planning for the district.
  • Oversees the development and management of park partners included but not limited to cooperating associations in collaboration with other park managers, volunteers and concessionaires.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a District Interpretive Specialist, Exhibit Coordinator, State Archeologist II, State Historian II, State Park Interpreter II, or State Park Naturalist II, including substantial responsibility for State Park interpretive programs.

OR 

  • Four years of experience performing the duties of a State Archeologist I, State Historian I, State Park Interpreter I, or State Park Naturalist I, including substantial responsibility for State Park interpretive programs.

OR

  • Experience: Five years of experience in the planning and development of natural history, museum, or historical interpretive programs, including at least two years in a supervisory or program administrative capacity.

AND

 

Education: 

  • Equivalent to graduation from college, preferably with a degree in interpretation, social sciences, natural science, communications, or closely related field. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
