Front Desk Receptionist - Student Worker (Work Study)

 

HIRING MULTIPLE RECEPTIONISTS

Summer start date available, but not required

Position continuing through academic year 2024-25

 

Position Overview

The Academic Advising Center strives to promote student success through excellent developmental academic advising focused on student learning and engagement.  Receptionists serve as representatives of the center and work to promote and provide a warm, welcoming, and professional reception for our students, faculty, staff and parents. 

Our receptionists assure each request or question is satisfactorily met, and that students meet with their advisors in a timely manner. 

Functions & Tasks:

  • Greet students, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Answer the telephone promptly and address the caller’s request. If needed, direct the caller to the appropriate office on campus, providing a contact person and telephone number, and remain on the line to introduce the caller to the transferred office.
  • Direct students who are signed in for advising appointments to their advisor’s office when advisor is ready.
  • Assist students with making advising appointments using the online scheduler over the telephone or in person at the Pomerantz Center office. An appointment reminder card can be offered if the appointment is made in person.
  • Contact students to reschedule appointments if the advisor is unable to see their students as scheduled, making every effort to assure that the student’s deadlines are met.
  • Follow opening and/or closing procedures for the Academic Advising Center offices according to scheduled shift when appropriate.
  • Assist with additional projects as directed

Qualifications:

  • Must have Federal Work Study funds for 2024-25 through Financial Aid
  • Welcoming; works well with the public
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Has a desire to provide excellent service to students, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Demonstrates confidence and tact in working with the public
  • Ability to relate to and work with students with various learning styles and needs
  • Understand, appreciate, and respect diverse populations
  • General computer knowledge. Some experience with Outlook and Excel is desirable.

Expected schedule and wage:

7-12 hours per week on average
