Graduate Assistantship in Learning and Engagement

The UI Stanley Museum of Art is pleased to offer one half-time graduate assistantship for the 2024–25 academic year that reports to the Curator of Learning and Engagement.

 

It is a 50% (20 hrs./wk.) appointment, paid at the minimum Graduate College stipend level, with a 100% tuition scholarship each semester based upon the Board of Regents resident graduate tuition. 

 

Graduate Assistantship in Learning and Engagement

This graduate assistantship is ideally suited for students with experience and interest in art and museum education as well as outreach. 

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Prepare creative, enriching, and accessible gallery experiences of the museum’s exhibitions for the public, particularly university students and faculty.
  • Develop object-based presentations and activities for a university audience.
  • Assist with the museum’s public programs, including setting up AV (typically this involves connecting the computer, pulling up the speaker’s slide deck, and connecting microphones), introducing the program and reading the UI land acknowledgement, and troubleshooting during the program.
  • Engage with the public and with peers once during the course of the academic year by leading a public program, a discussion with staff or peers, or other project.
  • Provide organizational support for Learning & Engagement projects, including calendar management and workflows.
  • Assist with and lead university class visits, working closely with the other Graduate Assistant(s), Academic Outreach Coordinator, and Curator of Learning & Engagement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

Position Education, Experience, and Skills:  

 

  • B.A. in the arts, education, or other related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, databases, and Photoshop, as well as basic ITS troubleshooting.
  • Possess calm and responsive demeanor when teaching and during public programs.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Exemplary research and writing ability.
  • Ability to maintain highest levels of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Experience in museums, galleries, or other relevant art settings desirable but not required.
