Resource Specialist

Resource Specialist 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Coordinate, facilitate, and monitor agriculturally-related programs and activities. 
2. Coordinate volunteers, service projects, and field trips.
3. Coordinate with Open Space Coordinator to research, devise and implement programs in order to monitor and improve soil quality and the presence of invasive plant species and pests in agricultural fields at Open Space properties. 
4. Coordinate with Open Space Coordinator on all aspects of natural surface trail development and maintenance. 
5. Coordinate forest thinning efforts at Open Space properties in conjunction with partnering non-County agencies. 
6. Facilitate implementation of forest health thinning plans, general land health and wildlife initiatives with appropriate personnel which may include but is not limited to: researching, developing and implementing recommendations, coordinating with stakeholders, monitoring and reporting on overall effectiveness of initiatives. Develop methods to effectively measure overall effectiveness of various initiatives and publish on-line results on a periodic basis.

8. Serve as the liaison to other non-County environmental research programs and monitoring projects. 
9. Coordinate and obtain necessary clearances in support of cultural and environmental studies.
10. Perform analyses and prepare maps using geographic information systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
11. Update web and social media accounts. 
12. Perform other job related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Outdoor Recreation, Natural or Earth Sciences, Environmental Education, Planning, or Natural Resource Management and one (1) year of work experience in above fields. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation. 
2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
3. Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position. 
4. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Work is performed outdoors, with exposure to natural weather conditions of spring and summer.
2. When working indoors, job duties are performed in a climate-controlled environment. Primary work surface is even, dry, carpeted or tiled..
3. Works alone primarily, with or without direction. Works with a group at times, and with a select team at times.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

1. Office work to include, but not limited to, computer literacy and ability to utilize fax; copy machine; telephone; calculator; computer; basic garden and farming tools; and Global Positioning Systems unit.
2. Various forms of paperwork are handled in performance of essential job duties.
