Preschool Director

PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR-Discovery Time Preschool, Mitchellville, IA

We are hiring a Preschool Director/Lead Teacher to manage our morning preschool for the 2024/2025 school year. It is our goal to provide children with the very best preschool learning experiences and provide appropriate developmental opportunities. The candidate will serve as a Christian model by guiding and facilitating the natural development of the child in a loving, caring atmosphere.

The successful applicant should have experience in a preschool/day care center, as well as strong leadership skills. The applicant should display a friendly demeanor, have a love for children, and strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment for our children, families, and teachers.

Requirements for consideration:

● Must be at least 21 years of age and obtained a high school diploma or passed a general education development test. (State of Iowa requirement)

● Completion of at least one course in business administration or 12 contact hours in administrative-related training related to personnel, supervision, record keeping or budgeting or one year of administrative-related experience.

● Through the Department of Human Services requirements scale, the candidate has achieved the proper number of points through a combination of education, experience, and child development-related training.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

● Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.

● Friendly and approachable demeanor.

● Maintain a professional appearance, attitude and work ethic at all times.

Prior to Starting Employment:

● Current physical examination

● Certification in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and Iowa’s training for the mandatory report of child abuse

● Certification in Universal Precautions

● Certification in Essentials Child Care Preservice Series

● Must pass federal and state background checks

Discovery Time Preschool is in session from early fall through spring following the Southeast Polk school calendar.

Classes are 5 days/week in the morning with an extended lunch session for students that attend Mitchellville Elementary afternoon preschool. This position requires duties outside of the preschool session hours for planning, meetings, and other duties related to the position.
