Position and Grade: Internship - Collection and Support the Preparation of Training Materials for the African Nuclear Safety Assessment Academy (ANSAAc)

Organizational Unit: Safety Assessment Section Division of Nuclear Installation Safety Department of Nuclear Safety and Security

Duty Station: Vienna, Austria

Duration of Appointment/Start: 1 year, As soon as possible 2024

Main Purpose 

The main purpose of the internship is to support the Safety Assessment Section in the preparation of the training materials for the African Nuclear Safety Assessment Academy, (ANSAAc). More specifically, the purpose is to support the collection, revision and preparation of the training materials on design safety and safety assessment, based on the IAEA safety standards, to be used for development of the African Nuclear Safety Assessment Academy, (ANSAAc) training modules.

Tasks / Key Results 

  • Collect and review the existing IAEA training materials on design safety and safety assessment, based on IAEA safety standards;
  • Support the technical officer and the external experts in the development of narratives and presentations for the training materials on design safety and safety assessment;
  • On the basis of material developed, prepare the draft outlines for the e-learning modules on design safety and safety assessment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge on nuclear safety including design safety and/or safety assessment (Required)
  • Excellent command of MS Office, especially PowerPoint (Required)
  • Excellent time management skills, communication skills and attention to detail (Required)
  • Experience in using SharePoint and MS Teams (Asset)
  • Previous experience with educational/promotional/communication activities, including publishing (Asset)

Qualifications and Experience 

  • University degree in Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Physics, or International Law, International Studies/Relations, Communication Studies.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) is an asset.

Applicant Eligibility 

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
  • Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
  • Excellent written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian) an asset.
  • Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
