IT Database Intern

 

Position Description 

Overall Responsibilities: 

As an IT Database Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in database management, development, and support. You will work closely with our IT team to assist with database maintenance, data analysis, and other technical tasks related to database systems.

**On-site in Holstein, IA or REMOTE**

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in the maintenance and management of Microsoft SQL database systems
  • Help with database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability
  • Inventory server configurations, permissions grants, and unused objects and provide recommendations for configuration best practices, data and schema access, and cleanup
  • Support data analysis and reporting activities by running queries and generating reports
  • Review server performance, identify non-performant queries, and provide tuning recommendations
  • Assist with creating user guides and documentation for database systems and tools
  • Provide support for database users, addressing any technical questions or issues they may have
  • Contribute to various database-related projects and initiatives as assigned by the supervisor

Position Requirements 

Qualifications:

  • Major in Information Technology, Computer Technology, MIS, or a related field 
  • Entering Junior or Senior year
  • Self-motivated
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
  • Able to analyze and evaluate database data     
  • Respectful of employees, vendors and customers

Physical Requirements

Tolerance for sitting long periods of time.  Possess finger dexterity to write, type, and use a calculator.  Maintain adequate vision to view small print and computer terminal.  Ability to speak and hear, walk throughout facilities with occasional light lifting (25 pounds), stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with hands and arms required. Ability to travel between multiple facilities as required to perform core job duties.
