This is your opportunity to gain professional experience working for one of the nation’s top public pension fund investment organizations. We are looking for a dynamic, energetic intern who is eager to be a part of our dedicated team. SWIB’s intern program offers an opportunity for you to put your skills to use while at the same time to learn new skills in a professional environment. Our internship program is designed to provide meaningful work through hands-on, authentic, professional experiences.

About the Team

SWIB’s Trading team is responsible for the execution of a global multi asset portfolio. The team seeks best execution in equities, currencies, futures, options and swaps; with a focus on cutting edge algorithmic strategies. 

Essential activities:

  • Analyzing execution data for patterns and insights
  • Develop ways to more closely integrate current systems
  • Enhance data flows between our internal trading systems
  • Contribute to report generation and creating inferences with pre-trade, program, commission data, etc.
  • Assist in building well documented procedures for order handling, data management and back/middle office workflows.

The Ideal candidate:

  • Ability to work in Madison, WI for an approximate 10-week period beginning late May/early June 2025.
  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Finance or another related field
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following: R, Python and SQL
  • Proficiency or familiarity with Bloomberg
  • Experience with business visualization tools, Power BI preferred
  • Exposure to trading and financial markets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Can work independently.
