Position: Social Media Manager for the English Department

 

Director: Professor Kaveh Akbar, Director of the English and Creative Writing Major

Supervisor: Andrea Cramer, Teaching Assistant/Research Assistant Coordinator, Assistant to the Directors of Gen Ed Lit and the English and Creative Writing Major

 

Hours/week: 3-5 hours/week

Pay: $15/hour

Duration: Academic Year with options for winter and summer work; start date spring 2025

 

The ECW Major is interested in hiring an English undergraduate (preferably a freshman or sophomore) as a Social Media Manager to maintain social media channels specifically for the major. This would include at least 1-2 posts per day highlighting program events and student and faculty accomplishments, as well as tips, deadlines, and any other information pertaining to the major. This position has a hand in fundraising for the English Department for One Day for Iowa (occurring in March, annually). The goal is to grow the visibility of the ECW Major and the English Department and provide information and community for alumni and undergraduates.

 

Work can be done remotely; twice-monthly in-person meetings in the English-Philosophy Building are required. 

 

Qualifications:

 

-Organized and able to work independently

-Familiar with Instagram, Facebook, and Meta Business, as well as Canva

-Strong writing and graphic design skills or background; enthusiasm for creative social media projects

-Strong email communication skills: able to check UI email on a regular basis and comfortable emailing staff, students, graduate students, and faculty
