Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education

The University of Wisconsin-Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, is seeking an emerging or established scholar that is passionate and committed to promoting the development of equitable, inclusive, and quality teaching and learning in early childhood education. The B.S. in Early Childhood Education program at UW-Stout is renowned for its commitment to research-based, developmentally appropriate and applied learning practices. Early Childhood Education at UW-Stout is in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership and one of the signature educator preparation programs at the university that leads to licensure in Early Childhood Education (birth to grade 3) and Early Childhood Special Education (birth to grade 3). The successful tenure track candidate will teach undergraduate courses (face-to-face and online), including teacher preparation, supervision of student teachers, and program assessment of student learning with opportunities for teaching in the summer. The anticipated start date is Monday, August 18, 2025.

This job announcement is being announced simultaneously with the Lecturer in Early Childhood Education (Job ID 21358). One (1) vacancy will be filled either at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track faculty) or lecturer (non-tenure track instructional academic staff with a renewable annual contract), depending on finalist's qualifications. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required 

  • An earned Ph.D., Ed.D. in Early Childhood Education or related field
    Or
    Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and enrolled in a doctoral program in Early Childhood Education or related field upon time of application, with completion of the terminal degree by time of tenure consideration.
  • At least three (3) years of full-time teaching experience as the lead teacher in Birth-Age 8 range.
  • Licensable in Early Childhood Education and/or Early Childhood Special Education in Birth-Age 8 range.

Highly Desired/Preferred

  • At least one degree earned in Early Childhood Education.
  • A record of strong teaching of teacher education courses.
  • A record of supervision of Early Childhood Education teacher candidates.
  • Record of scholarly activity.
  • Record of professional service.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Teach Early Childhood Education courses; supervise teacher candidates in field experiences; provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning; engage in scholarly activities and research; develop and maintain positive relations with outside agencies; demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff as well as independently contributing to academic program assessment and continuous improvement processes; participate in service activities at the discipline, school and university levels; and participate in service activities at the program, department, school, college, and university levels as well as professional and community service; Interest in advancing student learning in the area of early childhood education and in alignment with UW-Stout's polytechnic tenets of applied learning and research, business and industry partnerships, career focused education.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION 

The mission of the Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (TLL) Department is to provide exemplary teaching, research, and service to ensure graduates become successful and effective leaders in their chosen professional discipline. To meet this mission, faculty and staff are expected to:

  • Foster the development of educational professionals engaged in reflective practice.
  • Provide program curricula reflecting diversity, research, theory, and best practice.
  • Align program outcomes with federal, state, and national education standards.
  • Recruit, support, and retain diverse faculty and staff who model best practices in professional education.

  • Collaborate with the Child and Family Study Center (CFSC) and pK-12 schools, universities, technical colleges, educational agencies, professional associations, and communities to improve teaching and learning.
  • Engage in leadership and service to the university, local, state, national, and international professional organizations.
