Library Associate
This full-time service position will perform customer service, programming, outreach, and collection development work in the youth services department.
Job Duties
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides direct service to customers; including reference, reader’s advisory, and interlibrary loan service; instruction in the use of equipment, the online catalog, and other online systems; and assistance in locating materials within the building.
- Assists with managing collections; including making title suggestions for new materials, serials, weeding.
- Assists with cataloging/inventory of library materials.
- Maintains acquisitions records and holdings.
- Provides back-up technology support.
- Assists with maintaining website, calendar, new material carousel, and announcement monitor.
- Assists with training new employees.
- Assists with shelf reading.
- Assists with planning and implementing age-specific Library programming.
- Assists with compiling and preparing reports.
- Assists with marketing and outreach to the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum: Four-year Bachelor’s degree in children’s literature, library media, education, or related field; and two years of library, customer service, education, or related experience
- Desired: Five years of library, customer service, working with youth or related experience
