Portrait Studio Photographer
UI Health Care Marketing and Communications is looking for a portrait studio photographer. The Portrait Studio Photographer will help UI Health Care’s nearly 20,000 faculty and staff shine by supporting our portrait studio.
Overview:
- Staff the photo studio Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon and Wednesdays 12:00 Noon – 4:00pm. (not required to be able to cover the full time slots, but preference will be given to those whose schedules align as closely as possible)
- Engage with the subjects during the portrait sessions, provide light coaching on how they are positioned, smiling, etc. to ensure the best portrait is captured.
- Support the editing and polishing of portraits before they are distributed to subjects with light Photoshop editing/retouching. This work can be done as scheduling allows, and is not tied to specific hours.
Qualifications
- Must be current UI student.
- Student will need to be able to work onsite (on the university campus in the General Hospital Building)
- Preference given to majors in journalism and mass communications, communication studies, business, photography, or marketing.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills – online, in person, over the phone.
- Previous experience with photography, photo editing, and digital asset management.
- Functional familiarity and experience with modern DSLR and/or mirrorless cameras, audio equipment, tripods, and other camera support systems.
- Strong problem-solving, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, creativity, resourcefulness, and an ability to work under pressure are essential.
- Great customer service and high expectations for quality.
Experience to be gained:
- Working in a professional setting, in person and virtually.
- Experience in working in a marketing environment.
- Experience collaborating with content creators, producers, graphic designers, photographers, and marketing managers.
- How to set up, stage, run, and light a professional portrait studio.
- Post production and photo editing skills that can translate to future marketing or communication roles.
- A combination of team and independent work on projects and tasks.

Hours: 15-20 hours/week during the spring and fall semesters. A minimum of 30-40 hours per week during the summer June and July and August with some flexibility in hours.; and possible night and weekend hours. Working holiday (Thanksgiving, winter and spring) breaks are optional.
Starting rate: $12 per hour
