Living Lab Intern, Office of Sustainability and the Environment 

 

TERM: Start date January 2025 and ongoing  

 

PAY RATE: $10.50 

 

HOURS: 5-10 hours per week during the fall and spring semester, up to 15 hours per week during summer session 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Office of Sustainability and the Environment (OSE) is seeking to hire an intern to assist with Living Labs at Iowa. Living Labs at Iowa seeks to plan and create inviting, multipurpose, outdoor spaces for experiential learning through teaching and research outside of the traditional classroom. Living labs utilize the unique features of campus, serve as testbeds for the development of innovative solutions to real-world challenges, and enhancing greenspaces may improve mental health and overall well-being. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Attend living lab planning and working group meetings, as available 

Assist in supporting the goals of Living Labs at Iowa - 

Benchmarking project for living labs at other universities 

Living labs literature review 

Assist with website content development 

Marketing for living labs 

Development of community survey  

Perform other duties as assigned  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Current University of Iowa student 

Available 5-10 hours per week, typically during normal business hours (8am-5pm) 

 

Desired Skills and Interests: 

Basic knowledge of sustainability concepts and UI’s sustainability practices 

Strong writing and communication skills 

Evidence of Leadership in academic and/or community affairs 

Self-starter with the ability to think critically and innovatively 

Flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented 

Systems thinking approach to problem solving 

Strong written and oral communication skills 

Strong organization and time management skills 

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
