CCOM Collegiate Relations Student Intern

The collegiate relations student intern will support the Carver College of Medicine alumni and collegiate relations team performing administrative, communications and event related duties. Starting in January 2025, this position requires 15-20 hours a week during the academic year and can work up to 40 hours during Thanksgiving, winter, spring and summer breaks. Applicants must be available to work scheduled hours at the Outreach & Engagement office location between 8 a.m. -5 p.m. Monday – Friday.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. This position is part of the UI Health Care department of Marketing and Communications division of Outreach and Engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor alumni relations email inboxes and phone lines and respond to requests and messages in a timely fashion 
  • Assist in the coordination of and execution of alumni relations programs and events such as health seminars, alumni and student milestone events, Hawkeye Caucus Day, and UI Health Care signature programs.
  • Staff events as needed (may require working occasional nights and/or weekends)
  • Enter and track progress in the department’s project management software system 
  • Create surveys and collect, enter, and pull program and attendee data using analytic tools including Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access Database
  • Support content creation and design of PowerPoint presentations, reports, email communications, and other materials to share with community members, partners, and leadership
  • Support the development of the monthly CCOM alumni newsletter through content curation and list segmentation
  • Assist in written content development through the transcription and annotation of interviews
  • Maintain inventory and organization of alumni relations supplies and giveaways
  • Assist with other Outreach and Engagement projects and programs as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • A current student at University of Iowa
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills; detail-oriented; ability to coordinate, track, and prioritize multiple projects or tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Compassionate and culturally responsive; maintains an ability to work with internal and external individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Ability to learn new technology and adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest and desire to learn more about public relations and outreach activities

Rate of Pay

$12.00/ hour with performance-based increases every six months.
