Description
The Worker Protection unit in the Hennepin County Attorney's Office (CAO) is seeking a Senior Attorney to coordinate office initiatives for prosecutions related to violations of worker protection laws in Hennepin County. The Hennepin County Attorney serves as the chief prosecutor of all adult felony and juvenile crimes in Hennepin County and is committed to a safe, equitable, and just Hennepin County.

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various buildings in downtown Minneapolis and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is required to be in-person for court proceedings. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:
- Supervise a team providing work direction, support, and performance management.
- Coordinate office initiatives for prosecutions related to violations of worker protection laws.
- Identify, investigate, and prosecute crimes committed by employers against workers in Hennepin County.
- Formulate and implement policies, plans, and procedures for carrying out functions of the Worker Protection unit consistent with office and divisional objectives.
- Define personnel resource needs and allocate them as required to reach Worker Protection Unit objectives.
- Serve as primary liaison to Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry and the US Department of Labor in recommending and drafting rules and suggesting improvements for implementing workplace regulations.
- Provide community outreach and engagement to educate workers and labor organizations on their rights and responsibilities relative to the Minneapolis workplace regulations.
- Review all case investigations and issue final legal determinations on prosecution.
Need to have:
- Admission to the Bar of the State of Minnesota.
- Four years or more of experience as a practicing attorney, two of which must have been in a specialized area of law appropriate to the position.

- Wage & Hour rules, labor regulations, and labor trafficking.
- Local laws and ordinances, established precedents, and legal reference sources.

- Judicial procedures and the rules of evidence.
- Pleading and practicing of effective presentation of court cases.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and persuasive public speaking ability.
- Ability to:
- Prepare, direct, and conduct trials, defenses and appeals effectively.
- Establish effective working relationships and to collaborate with other county departments.
- Plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of staff.
- Analyze and apply legal principles to specific situations and issues.
