The Cycle Learning Center Supervisor works with the Cycle Learning Center Manager in overseeing daily shop operations and programs. They assist in the supervision of 12 student staff and manage operations of the retail floor, repair workshop, rental program, and new and used bicycle inventory. There are opportunities to implement and lead activities such as public repair workshops, group rides, Cycling 101 classes, and more. Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Cycle Learning Supervisor will work with the Cycle Learning Center Manager in overseeing daily shop operations and programs. They will assist in the supervision of 12 student staff and manage operations of the retail floor, repair workshop, rental program, and new and used bicycle inventory. There are opportunities to implement and lead activities such as public repair workshops, group rides, Cycling 101 classes, and more. Level Scope:

Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or campus policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

 

Essential Functions:

Public Safety Standard Employee Responsibilities:

 

• Ensures customer service for the entire Department and campus community.

 

• Has knowledge of the Department, its employees, and how the department functions.

 

• Engages in Departmental problem-solving for organizational issues; makes recommendations for Department efficiencies and advancement.

 

• Plans and coordinates a variety of special administrative projects and assignments.

 

• Renews job knowledge by reading professional journals, participating in educational opportunities, and belonging to professional organizations.

 

• Represents the Department and the Division in select working groups, committees, and partnerships, both internal and external to the University.

 

• Engages the entire campus community through workshops and training programs, designed to enhance the student experience and the safety and security of all community members

 

• Campus Security Authority: This position is identified as a "Campus Security Authority (CSA)" per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law, the employee is required to report any crimes that they become aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally, CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer.

 

Public Safety Manager Responsibilities:

 

• Provides leadership and management of the units under the supervision and coordination of his/her chain of command.

 

• Includes the hiring, coaching, and termination of direct reports.

 

• Manages employees' scheduling, work assignments, communication, and personnel development.

 

• Evaluates employee performance, gives regular feedback, and conducts annual performance reviews.

 

• Leads a unified team for the entire unit, assisting with communication, team building, professional development, incentives, and compensation review programs.

 

• Ensures customer service for the entire campus community, as well as the general public.

 

• Monitors work activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies, and procedures.

 

• Manages workflow and productivity of personnel to ensure that the needs of the department and campus community are met.

 

• Design educational staff training modules that include detailed job orientation at the start of employment as well as through regular staff meetings and ongoing training to ensure regulatory compliance.

 

Cycle Learning Shop Operations and Training:

 

• Perform the duties of a bicycle mechanic educator and trainer of new employees.

 

• Track and evaluate learning outcomes.

 

• Lead student scheduling.

 

• Implement efficiency systems for shop operations.

 

• Supervise the daily operations of the Cycle Learning Center workshop including being responsible for safety protocols.

 

• Complete repairs on bikes as needed and requested to facilitate an efficient workflow.

 

• Manage the Retail floor including the supervision of the Bicycle Rental Program for Boise State University.

 

• Prioritize work schedule to complement seasonal shifts and be back up when the Manager is out of the shop.

 

Clinics and Event Programs:

 

• Implement and lead activities for the benefit, development, and expansion of the bicycle culture at Boise State University.

 

• Implement and lead repair workshops.

 

• Implement and lead group rides.

 

• Teach Cycling 101 classes.

 

• Teach BroncoFit 158 Bicycle Maintenance class.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 

• Competence with bicycle commuting.

 

• A bike for regular transport.

 

• Familiarity with road cycling or fixed-gear riding and with road, mountain, and urban cycling.

 

• Competence in bike technology and component compatibility.

 

• Ability to teach skills and concepts using tactile, auditory, and visual methods.

 

• Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and information.

 

• Ability to respond to campus within 30 minutes for unplanned events and emergency response.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: supervising staff; applying parking management concepts to include traffic pattern survey and parking layout, traffic and parking hazards, and safety standards; preparing written reports and correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• League of American Bicyclist Cycling Instructor certification.

 

• 2+ years employed as a bicycle mechanic.

 

• 2+ years Retail/customer service experience.

 

• At least 1 year of experience teaching skills and concepts using tactile, auditory, and visual methods.

 

• At least 1 year of experience leading groups in outdoor environments in a professional capacity.
