Dining Lead (Student Position)-Hillcrest Market Place

BASIC FUNCTION
Assist in providing direction and supervision for student employees involved in a variety of tasks that include food preparation, service, sanitation, cashiering, and communication within Market Place service and dining areas.
Must have worked as a student associate (formerly, student lead) for at least one full semester.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in organizing staffing assignment for all work areas with the Market Place and Dish Room
- Redistributes student employees as needed in the absence of an assistant manager or food service coordinator, or as assigned.
- Assists in ensuring a high level of customer service, answering questions, addressing concerns and displaying a friendly disposition. Communicates with assistant manager on duty. Completes daily shift report documenting any incidents or concerns involving facilities, equipment, customers and/or employees.
- Ensures student employees follow established food preparation, service, and sanitation guidelines.
- Assist in overseeing clean up, supervising student staff and ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Complies with all safe food-handling procedures and complying with all personal hygiene, grooming, and uniform requirements.
- Assist in training new student employees and ensure they understand all their assigned tasks and responsibilities.
- Assists in enforcing departmental policies and procedures, providing supervision and direction to assist student employees in meeting required performance standards.
- Assists in monitoring cashier/checker functions and activities including unauthorized guest entry, removal of food or supplies from the Market Place, and general flow of entry lines. Provide checker backup assistance as needed including completing closing reports, recording customer counts, and incident reports.
- Performs related duties as assigned including unexpected daily activities, special events, “On the Go Meals” and “Hawkeye Treats.”
- Provide leadership and serve as professional role model.
- May be asked to open and close Late Night operation independently. Perform assigned job responsibilities independent of management supervision.
- Might be Responsible for checking out keys to open the assigned areas and returning them after securing the areas for the day.
- Dress in proper work attire per department guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a currently enrolled as a student at the University of Iowa.
- Must have 3-6 months pervious food service leadership or equivalent experience.
- Must demonstrate outstanding communication skills and be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population.
- Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
- Must be able to work through finals week.
- Must be able to move up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
- Basic computer software skills and some bookkeeping/accounting skills, highly desirable.
WORK HOURS
- This position is limited to up to 20 hours per week (320 hours per semester). Market Places are closed during academic break periods
- Flexible shifts between 6:00 AM and 1:00 AM
