PAY AND BENEFITS

 

Annual Pay Range: $46,192.62 - $59,276.56

 

Hourly Pay Range: $22.207989 - $28.498346

 

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

We are seeking motivated individuals with a collaborative, team-oriented approach to work and strong interpersonal skills to join our team as Water Environment Services (WES) Assistants. If you are selected for this position, you will play a critical role, supporting WES's Field Operations Team with maintaining sewer and stormwater structure. Routine tasks may include cleaning and inspecting assets, and performing vegetation maintenance at stormwater facilities. WES Assistants provide assistance to higher-level staff and learn how to perform the work of the higher-level classifications.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

 

• Experience using and operating small hand tools and equipment, including mowers, saws, and blowers

• Basic knowledge of custodial practices, grounds keeping techniques, or landscape maintenance

• Working knowledge of safety rules and practices for working in an industrial or construction environment

• Ability to perform physical labor sometimes during adverse weather conditions

 

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*

 

• CPR/First Aid certification

• Oregon Department of Transportation Traffic Flagging certification

• Possession of Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

• Wastewater Collection System Operator certification

• Experience operating equipment used in the maintenance and repair of sewer and stormwater systems

• Experience and/or training related to excavation safety or confined space entry

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. TYPICAL TASKS

 

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

 

• Sewer main line cleaning. Assists Field Operations Technicians to set up traffic control in the roadway. Removes manhole covers to accommodate cleaning. Assists the Technician operating high pressure cleaning equipment. Performs cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment.

• Sewer and storm main line CCTV inspections. Assists Field Operations Technicians to set up traffic control in the roadway. Removes manhole covers to accommodate inspections. Inserts and removes camera equipment from manholes. Performs cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment.

• Stormwater catch basin cleaning. Assists Field Operations Technicians to set up traffic control in the roadway. Removes covers and grates to accommodate cleaning. Assists the Technician operating the combo truck to set up and remove debris from stormwater inlets and control points. Assists the Field Operations Technician with structure inspections and recordkeeping. Performs cleaning and maintenance of tools and equipment.

• Vegetated facility maintenance. Assists Field Operations Technicians with inspections of vegetated facilities. Performs trimming and removal of vegetation. Operates mowers, saws, blowers and string trimmers to maintain facilities.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Duties require physical labor, including walking, reaching, squatting, kneeling, bending, balancing, climbing, shoveling, fine motor control, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, and push/pull up to 70 pounds. Duties also involve exposure to bacteria, viruses and toxins in wastewater, chemicals, exhaust fumes and dust, loud noises, and vibration. Some duties involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous locations, such as streets, live sewers, confined underground areas and on elevated platforms.

 

Incumbents may perform after-hours emergency response on a callout basis.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

 

This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday - Thursday (Fridays off), 6:00 am - 4:30 pm:

 

• Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.

• This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.

Clackamas Water Environment Services produces clean water and protects water quality for more than 190,000 people living and working in Clackamas County. We operate and maintain five resource recovery facilities, 23 pumping stations and hundreds of miles of pipes.

 

Each year, we clean more than seven billion gallons of water which we recover and turn into natural energy and fertilizer. We also help reduce pollution in local rivers, streams, and wetlands caused by surface and stormwater runoff, the number one source of water pollution in Oregon.
