Underwriting Shared Services Intern

This internship is part of the state of Iowa’s Early-Stage ‘Insure Your Future’ program. The program provides an opportunity targeted at college freshman and sophomores to gain experience in Iowa’s insurance industry. What You’ll Do: As the Underwriting (UW) Shared Services Intern you will assist Staff Underwriters from within the UW Shared Services department. You will have project opportunities within the Underwriting department, in addition to potential projects for products and personal lines underwriters. These may include responsibilities to support our business units.

Our internal Farm Bureau Financial Services internship program holds an 80/10/10 approach, meaning that 80% of your work time will involve performing tasks or working on projects within your hired work area. Another 10% of the time, you will be exposed to learning in other areas within your assigned division to get more corporate experience. Then, the final 10% will be spent on shared experiences across the organization, where you will get to learn more about our culture and work environment. 

This opportunity is a great way for you to get your foot in the door gaining entry level underwriting and insurance experience, as well as general corporate real-world exposure.

What It Takes to Join Our Team:

·               Be a college freshman or sophomore or recently completed your freshman or sophomore year.

·               A quick learner who is looking to learn new concepts and ideas, and able to learn basic understanding of property insurance policies.

·               Familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.

·               Must be detail oriented and willing to ask questions.

·               Be available to work 38.75 hours per week during the Summer 2025 from our office in Wes Des Moines, Iowa.

·               Must attend four Insure Your Future leadership development sessions in the Des Moines metro area through the Iowa Department of Economic Development.

·               Please note housing is not provided.
