About Us:
Tumbleweed is a purpose-driven tech company helping families navigate aging, caregiving, and legacy planning with greater ease and compassion. We're a remote-first team passionate about building human-centered tools that make a real impact. We are especially focused on the Sandwich Generation, the 1 in 5 adults caring for an aging loved one.
Role Overview:
We’re looking for a curious, self-driven Product + Technical Intern to help us prototype and test our first Copilots, powered by Agentic AI. You’ll work closely with the founding team to explore how low-code tools and AI frameworks can be used to guide users through caregiving decisions, digital planning, and emotional support.
This role is open to graduate students or highly motivated undergraduates with a background in computer science, informatics, HCI, or a related field. You don’t need to be an expert in AI—but you should be eager to experiment, learn fast, and help build something that makes a real difference.
What You’ll Do:
- Collaborate on prototyping an AI-powered Copilots using low-code/no-code tools (e.g., Voiceflow, Replit, LangChain, Zapier, etc.)
- Help design and test user flows based on caregiver pain points
- Support basic front-end logic and workflow design
- Conduct user testing sessions and capture feedback
- Explore integrations with legacy planning tools and APIs (e.g., will/POA tools, insurance links)
- Assist with documentation and product roadmap inputs
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
- Experience with OpenAI, Pinecone, LangChain, or similar frameworks
- Familiarity with no-code tools like Voiceflow, Bubble, or Glide
- Interest in behavioral science, UX research, or tech-for-good solutions
- Understanding of data privacy and ethical considerations in AI
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong problem-solving mindset and self-direction
- Excitement about AI, startups, and making tech more human
- Comfortable working independently, asking questions, and showing initiative
- Clear communication and collaborative energy
Eligibility:
- Must be a current University of Iowa student (undergrad or grad)
- Must have an Iowa-based address
- Must be available to attend occasional key in-person events (with notice)
What You Should Know:
Tumbleweed is an early-stage startup, which means this internship is highly unstructured. That means no rigid daily checklists or micromanagement—you’ll have space to own projects, take initiative, and contribute meaningfully. We’re looking for self-motivated, resourceful interns who are energized by building in real time.
While we do not require 9-to-5 hours, there will be scheduled 1:1s, team check-ins, connections via Slack, and key virtual or in-person events throughout the internship that interns are expected to attend.
All interns must have reliable WiFi and access to a personal computer, as equipment is not provided.
If you're looking for a highly structured, high-touch internship, this may not be the best fit. But if you're a go-getter who thrives in a flexible, fast-moving environment, you'll gain meaningful experience, ownership, and impact with a mission-driven team.
