Student Research Assistant - Clinical Research Services

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Serve as a member of the Clinical Research Services team by supporting research activities at the University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.  The student will perform work primarily in the Clinical Cancer Center in the Pomerantz Family Pavilion. This position will be working on the Clinical Research Services pre-screening initiative to help identify patients for interventional oncology clinical trials. These duties include data mining and analysis, reviewing key data points in patient records within Epic electronic health record, inputting data into various documents and databases. The student will be expected to operate independently with general training and supervision as projects require.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in pre-screening patients for clinical trial eligibility
  • Review patient charts in EPIC with a high attention to detail
  • Data Entry using data collection tools such as EPIC and OnCore, Excel, Qualtrics and other applications
  • Assist in judging validity of data; making recommendations for change as opportunities for improvement are identified.
  • Consult with supervising staff to support improvement activities and organizational initiatives.
  • Performs additional task, special functions and/or special projects as assigned. 
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Proficiency in software applications such as MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). 
  3. Experience with medical terminology.
  4. Experience with EPIC

EXPECTED SKILLS TO GAIN:

  1. Proficiency with clinical research applications such OnCore and Epic.
  2. Ability to manage complex information with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 

Administrative supervision provided by Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Clinical Research Services. 

Pay: $13.00/hr

Schedule: Monday-Friday, between the hours of 8am-5pm, 15-20 hours/week during the academic year and up to 40 hours/week during summer and holiday breaks
