Renaissance Financial

Intern

October - November 2023 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked meeting with advisors and staff members in the St.Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, Lincoln, and Phoenix offices. Through these meetings, I was able to learn about the career trajectory of advisors and staff members and received valuable advice and insight.

What I wish was different

I wish that we had a set schedule to come into the office every week.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would give is to show up consistently and actively listen because you can learn a lot by paying attention to what experienced advisors have to say.

What I liked

I loved this Internship! Everyone here is very genuine and they hold themselves to a high standard to do right by the people they help. I was able to shadow advisors in client meetings to learn how meetings were held, as well as complete projects that enhanced my knowledge in the financial advising field.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have met with more upper-level advisors around all of the different offices.

Advice

I would advise anyone that thinks Financial Advising could be a career for them to do their internship at Renaissance Financial! Everyone here is extremely helpful in working with interns and teaching them about this profession. I would also advise the interns to get to know as many people as you can at your office and the other offices Renaissance has, and be coachable! You will get out what you put into this internship!

What I liked

I liked how open and inviting everyone at Renaissance is. It's a collaborative work environment where everyone wants to help everyone. I got to learn about what it's like to be a Financial Advisor through my mentors. We got projects that helped show us what they do every day.

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advice would be to get out of your shell and go meet people around the office. Making your name known and having a relationship with not only advisors but staff and assistance is just as important.

Financial Advisor Intern

June - August 2023 • Overland Park, KS

What I liked

In my opinion, this internship gives you the most accurate idea of what this career is really about. You get to see the ins and outs of what a financial advisor does while simultaneously preparing yourself for the position. Similar to how advisors are their own bosses, this internship gives you the freedom to decide what you learn and from who. You really do get out of it what you put into it. There isn't a traditional "supervisor' like most other jobs, we were largely responsible for getting our stuff done the way we saw fit. I really liked the freedom aspect because it requires you to have good time management and prioritization skills, which will help you in any career path. Beyond the actual day to day, Renaissance is like a family and the summer was filled with fun stuff like baseball games and happy hours. If you're interested in the field of financial advising, this is a great place to be.

What I wish was different

Advice

Put yourself out there and get comfortable being in uncomfortable situations. As cliché as it sounds, you will only get out of it what you put into it. If you're willing to learn and ask questions you will excel in this internship. Don't be afraid to ask for help, in fact asking as many questions as possible will only help you. Get to know the people in the office and build relationships because at the end of the day they want to see you succeed and are great people to have in your corner.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have came into the internship more prepared on the basic concepts that were discussed.

Advice

A piece of advice that I have it to come into the internship ready and willing to go out of your comfort zone and to talk to as many people as possible.

What I liked

Renaissance puts a lot of effort towards providing interns with an in-depth educational experience. The program has exposed me to all aspects of the financial planning industry and I have developed an understanding of what it takes to be a financial advisor. Additionally, I liked how easy it was to approach anyone in the company when I had questions. Everyone at all levels of the company were always happy to take the time to answer questions or give advice.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more in person meetings and trainings.

Advice

Make sure to take the time to meet everyone you can, there are lots of great great people willing to share their perspectives.

What I liked

I enjoyed how we were able to really take control of our own experiences and make the most of our time at the firm. The self paced aspect of the internship was perhaps my favorite part of working at the firm

What I wish was different

I wish we would be able to interact with the senior advisors more, but all in all I had a wonderful experience.

Advice

I would seek out this experience for all those who are interested. I would come in with an open mind and an eagerness to learn.

What I liked

I really loved the atmosphere and everyone that I met while I working as an intern. The company has an incredible culture and family environment. I also really enjoyed how the internship was geared more towards educating us and giving us real work experience rather than just using us for busy work.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer!

Advice

If you have the opportunity to work as an intern at Renaissance Financial I recommend that you use your time there to meet as many people in the company as you can. Everyone I had the pleasure of talking to had a different story to tell and great advice.

Financial Advisor Intern

June - August 2021 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked the projects that were assigned, the relationships I have made, and the office environment. Everything about the internship experience at Renaissance Financial exceeded my expectations by great margins. The environment made me feel like I have been working there for a much longer time than just a couple months. Everyone was very friendly and always willing to give advice. The best way to describe the Renaissance environment is a "competitive family".

What I wish was different

There is not anything that I wish that would've been different.

Advice

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is you will get out what you put in. If you put in a lot of effort, then you will get a lot out of it. This is an internship for people who are interested in the career and people who want to learn about the financial advisor lifestyle.

What I liked

This internship was a wonderful experience, even as someone who's major isn't finance or something close to it. Every single person here made me feel welcomed and would go out of their way to offer help in any way they could. I also appreciated how they sent us a booklet before we started, that outlined the program, it gave us structure coming in. I also enjoyed the gracious amount of free time on our calendars, as it gave us opportunities to build our network within the company. It also gave us time to work on projects which doubled as a lesson on time management. They also had a variety of fun activities planned for us, which we're great! It was so awesome to be able to meet the interns in other cities, it just goes to show how important teamwork and the family atmosphere is to Renaissance. I'm so grateful I got to spend my summer at Renaissance with all the great people there!

What I wish was different

While I did have the opportunity to meet so many advisors, I wish I could've met with everyone!

Advice

Something that has been told to me by other advisors is the same advice I would want to give to other potential interns coming into this job. Meet with as many people as you can, and be coachable. The willingness to learn is a very powerful tool in this world! Ask as many questions you can, as people are willing and able to help you here. Everyone wants to see each other succeed!

Financial Advisor Intern

June - August 2021 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I really liked how I was encouraged to sit down and talk to people from all across the firm. Every conversation I had felt genuine and provided me with a lot of great insight into a career in financial advising. The culture at Renaissance is another thing I enjoyed. It was clear that everyone shared the common goal of wanting to help people and build meaningful relationships.

What I wish was different

Advice

First, I advise everyone to make a list of things they want to accomplish during their time here. Whether it be meeting a new person each week or learning about a certain product, having goals will help make the most of the experience. I also encourage everyone to put themselves out there and get out of their comfort zone. Schedule meetings with different advisors, ask questions, and truly immerse yourself in the company. Doing those things during my internship assured me that this is the career path I want to pursue!

Intern

June - August 2021 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I really enjoyed the freedom and trust the interns were given to do work as we please. It was put on the interns to make connections with advisors and ask for their help for the projects which helped my connect with many different advisors and staff members throughout the company. I also really like the culture at Renaissance where everyone is welcoming and willing to help with anything.

What I wish was different

I wish the project instructions would have been a bit more thorough, especially for the case studies. Also, I wish the mentors could have changed halfway through the internship to have more experiences with more advisors.

Advice

My advice for anyone considering this internship would be to do it. It can push you out of your comfort zone and teach you so much about the industry which can be so helpful in your career even if you choose not to work at RFC. My advice for anyone committed to this internship would be to meet as many people as you can, not just limited to advisors. Meeting the advisors and staff can help to understand the company's culture as a whole.

What I liked

I loved the atmosphere that Renaissance cultivated. I genuinely felt that my co-workers and supervisors cared about the work I was doing. Since I took this internship during the pandemic, Renaissance fought hard to keep us interns onboard. They successfully transferred us interns into a fully-virtual setting. While most other firms were cancelling their internships, Renaissance changed their entire program to accommodate us.
