Biologics Co-op: Process Engineering

January - July 2022 • Framingham, MA

What I liked

I enjoyed being a part of the team and really getting to learn about the large scale manufacturing side of biotechnology. The group I was in wanted the co-ops to be very involved. Overall, I had an experience where I got to see and learn a lot.

What I wish was different

At this specific site, they are in the process of developing a more established co-op program. So, due to this and COVID, there were not a lot of other co-ops/interns.

Advice

When you're at the job, ask a lot of questions and get as involved with everything as you can. There is so much you can learn from others.

Sanofi Lab Analyst 1

June - August 2020 • Swiftwater, PA

What I liked

Great way to network and meet new people who share the same interests as you Amazing way to learn about the field of research Perfect way to learn new techniques associated with laboratories Explore different career paths

What I wish was different

COVID set back a lot of the timing for my internship, I was supposed to start on June 1st, 2020 but I was working from home until the second week of July. Trying to get a job/ internship during the pandemic really set back a lot of things that the company had planned for their interns

Advice

Ask questions! Even if you think they are not important, still ask! Listen and take it all in! It is one of the best experience you will have! You learn so much! Be respectful, and come to work on time!

Summer Intern

June - August 2020 • Swiftwater, PA

What I liked

I love that I was able to learn various lab techniques that could be applied to various areas of research. Also, I gained some interesting knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry and the process of making vaccines

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, COVID had an impact on my start date for my internship. I did work from home on a company laptop until the end of June.

Advice

My one piece of advice would be to keep networking. I found my internship online and through putting myself out there.

What I liked

I really enjoyed the independence I was given throughout this internship. I was provided multiple projects to work on and allowed the freedom to create my own timelines and visions for each. This freedom provided me many opportunities for professional and personal growth.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have interacted with more of the company's clients.

Quality Control Microbiologist

June - August 2019 • Allston, MA

What I liked

This internship was a really rewarding experience for me and was a great introduction into the pharmaceutical industry. Working in the QC Microbiology lab, I enjoyed watching and performing the assays that the analysts executed. More importantly, I liked being able to piece together how different departments worked together towards one goal. This program emphasized getting exposure to different areas of Sanofi, and I was even able to visit different Sanofi sites as part of my experience. I really enjoyed this aspect of my internship, as well as the freedom to explore my own interests. Lastly, the community at Allston is incredibly welcoming; everyone was so friendly and eager to help. This made for a very positive work environment.

What I wish was different

This internship program is new at Allston, but I am confident that the feedback we provided will be used to help future interns. While I really enjoyed the freedom of building my internship around my interests, I would have preferred a little more structure regarding our projects and, at times, daily work.

Advice

Definitely do not be afraid to ask questions! Everyone is willing to help out and show you around. In addition to learning a lot about Sanofi, I also received very helpful academic and career advice by asking questions during this internship. This is a unique experience, so take the most out of this opportunity. Learn as much as you can, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone!

Biologics Intern: QA Operations

June - August 2019 • Allston, MA

What I liked

This internship was an incredible insight into the behind the scenes operations of a bio-pharmaceutical company. This included extensive tours of facilities, processes, and departments. As a member of QA I was exposed to "on the floor" operations, as well as organizational standards used throughout the company. I felt that work I did to create new organizational tools was useful and valued by the department and that their work to educate me on their company was detailed and insightful. Everyone I met was a pleasure to work with, including 7 fellow interns that were also part of my program. This opportunity also allowed a lot of freedom in daily work, where I was really only given the expectations, resources, and requests for a project and the rest was up to me to reach out to people for input and feedback and to complete it how I saw fit.

What I wish was different

This program is new to Sanofi, and I expect great strides to be made based on the feedback they receive. Everyone is incredibly eager to let you shadow them or bring you into the manufacturing space each day. However, since the program is new and it is not always clear to employees how much they may "borrow" us, so these offers did not always precipitate.

Advice

Sanofi is a very big and diverse company, and an internship here provides a look into many areas of the industry that at the time I didn't even know existed.

Market Access Intern

June - August 2018 • Bridgewater Township, NJ

What I liked

I enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere. Everyone was really kind, and willing to help me out at all times. I was able to network with professionals in different departments, as well gain insight on the healthcare system.

What I wish was different

I honestly enjoyed every aspect of my internship!

Advice

Always have questions! The healthcare system is a complex entity. The more you try to understand it and it’s functions, the easier it will be to understand your role as an intern within the company.

Information Technology Solutions RDP Intern

June - August 2018 • Bridgewater Township, NJ

What I liked

I've developed and grew beyond what I expected, both personally and professionally. This was such an amazing experience for building skillset and knowledge in my field, I was challenged with projects I didn't think I could handle, but I also had the best managers and supporting leaders around me to guide me in the right direction constantly. I also liked that the program paired you with projects related to your major and interests. For example, I am a marketing major, therefore although I was involved with IT projects, I continuously worked with marketing and branding teams on their marketing projects.

What I wish was different

I wish that the corporate atmosphere was a bit different. There is a huge age gap with employees my age and older employees, and I felt processes were a bit outdated and slow at times. But this was a good opportunity to learn from people more experienced from you and get career insight.

Advice

Make the best of it, network with as many people as possible, schedule time on their calendar, AND ASK QUESTIONS. What I learned the most is that I needed humility above all. I needed to be able to see my work receive criticism and not take it personally, and keep improving it and fixing it, and asking for guidance and help when needed. Communication is extremely important, you must communicate with your managers and teams exactly what you're working on and what you've achieved, so people know you're putting in value. Also, top managers and directers can be very busy, sometimes it's necessary to catch them when they're quickly getting coffee or (maybe even running into them in the bathroom!)
