The thing I liked the most about this internship was that SNC paired me 1-on-1 with a level 4 mechanical engineer. He was always there to answer any questions I had and he gave me a secondary mentor that was just as helpful. Going along with the previous point, the culture was very welcoming. Even though SNC does very important and technical work I never felt like I didn't belong. Also, the internship program was very interactive. There were weekly activities and meetings that got all 50+ interns together. Some of those activities were fun, like a foam sheet glider competition, and others were more geared toward professional development. The work I did was helpful moving forward in industry and for figuring out what I want in my future career. My work was mostly in SolidWorks creating and updating drawings. I also loved being in the Denver area because I could hike every weekend!
What I wish was different
One thing I wish would have been different is having more 3D design work. I got to work in SolidWorks, which I really enjoy doing, but it was mostly in 2D drawings. My favorite part about engineering is designing products which I wasn't really able to do during this internship. I also wish the interns were closer together in their work areas. The campus I was at was very large and all the interns were spread out.
Advice
One piece of advice that I would share is be social. It is something that I didn't do as much as I should have and I realize it is very important. Make friends with fellow interns and your mentors. Another piece of advice is usually as an intern you are not expected to be perfect so be ok with making mistakes. Seek out criticism and ask as many questions as you can.

Technical Intern I
June 2020 • Huntsville, AL
What I liked
It was a very hands-on experience. It was structured such that a small team of interns was assigned a mentor and given a primary project to work on for the summer with checkpoints and goals, and the goal was to create a product that hadn't existed before with light guidance from the mentor.
What I wish was different
I wish I had known what fields of technology I would be learning about prior to the start of the internship. I had no idea what I would really be doing, thought I'm sure that could be due to sensitive handling of information.
Advice
If you're looking for an easy internship that takes minimal effort and doesn't drive you to innovate, this is the wrong internship for you.

I loved the atmosphere and people that worked there. I had an amazing team, and everyone was super kind and helpful. The projects were also super cool. I was on the Dream Chaser spacecraft team, and it was a really amazing experience.
What I wish was different
Honestly, nothing. I had a wonderful time.
Advice
I would say just ask as many questions, and get involved in as many projects as you can. Don't be afraid to reach out for help, or to get involved in projects you're interested in.
